Athletes for the University of Nigeria made the Institution
proud by winning two gold trophies and one bronze in the 2015 West Africa
University Games (WAUG) held in the University.
The gold trophies were won by female football teams in hockey
and football, while the male football team settled for bronze.
The UNN female hockey team humiliated the University of
Ibadan with three goals to nil to emerge winner in the championship. The
University of Ibadan got the silver medal while the University of Education,

In the male category of hockey competition, Obafemi Awolowo
University (OAU) coasted home with the Gold, while Federal University of
Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) got the silver trophy.
In football, Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) won
the gold trophy in male football competition while the University of Calabar
went home with silver. The UNN male team
peeped Adekunle Ajasin University one nil to win the bronze trophy after the
team was eliminated by ESUT on penalty shoot out at the semi-final stage.
Prof. Solomon Akpabio, the President of WAUG said he was
grateful to God that the competitions were held without any regrettable
incident. He thanked the University of

Prof. Solomon said the performances of over 27 Universities
that participated in the tournament showed that there were great hope for
sports in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
Prof, Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba, the Vice-Chancellor of the
University of Nigeria said it was a rewarding experience to have planned and
successfully executed the WAUG tournament.
He expressed gratitude to the WAUG body and other good
spirited individuals and organisations who contributed to the success of the
sports fiesta.
Meanwhile, a UNN football player, Obot Ubonabasi received two
silver wares, as the highest goal
scorer and the most valuable player of
the tournament.
Obot who scored a
total of five goals, was adjudged by spectators as the most dazzling player in
