Sultan of Sokoto Sues for Peace among Nigerians
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar has urged Nigerians to shun all form of sentiments and live together as brothers united under the same country by God.
The Sultan made the call at the University of Nigeria during his visit to Enugu state in December 2016. “Nigeria has always lived together as brothers, if we are fighting one another now, something is wrong; we have to retrace our steps”, he told members of the university community who gathered to receive him at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium.

He condemned the activities of terrorists and other militant groups who kill innocent citizens, stressing that “you will go to hell if you kill” Alhaji Abubakar, who came in company of the Governor of Enugu State, noted that he. learnt how to cohabit with Fellow Nigerians during his military career in Nsukka about 39 years earlier. “I am not a visitor here, I am just coming home” , he said.
While commending the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria for upholding a high standard of education in the university, the Sultan noted that only quality education would endear enduring development in Nigeria. He urged Nigerians to believe in themselves and practise the truth of their religion.
The Governor of Enugu State, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi thanked the Sultan for visiting Enugu State. He noted that the Sultan had been an ardent supporter of Rangers Football Club of Enugu and a good friend of the State He commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria for hosting them, stating that Enugu State “is in the hands of God”.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Professor Benjamin Ozumba thanked the Governor and the Sultan for visiting the University, describing the institution as home for all Nigerians.
Prof Ozumba said the University of Nigeria was committed to promoting quality education and research activities that would help solve the problems of Nigeria and promote development in the country.
